Well, this week’s blog post is going to be rather different, because I really only have one thing to say. On May 20th, I’m getting married to Rebecca Ivic! So we’re going to be on hiatus for a few weeks, as Becky and I will be rather preoccupied with the wedding and honeymoon.
This blog will resume its regular activity on Sunday, June 17, 2012.
I’d just like to take a moment to recognize my fellow COM 315 instructor, Becky Ivic, who was notified earlier today that she will receive the Alan H. Monroe Graduate Scholar Award next spring. The award is given only to graduate students who demonstrate an exceptional degree of work publishing their original research in academic journals. Recipients of the Monroe Award formally receive the accolade in an annual banquet during the spring semester.
In August, United Airlines announced that they would be deploying 11,000 iPads to pilots to be used for paperless navigation charts. You can read the press release here.
In the article, among other claims, United Airlines claims that the use of iPads will increase the level of safety on flights.
Do you believe that iPads in the cockpit will increase safety for pilots and passengers? Do you agree with the safety claim or any other claim regarding the introduction of iPads? Do you think it’s a good idea?
Have you heard of iPads being used in any other interesting or innovative ways or in industries or settings that you might not have thought an iPad would be helpful?
The new football season has arrived, and I for one am ready to finally watch something more than baseball highlights on ESPN. Whether you are a fan of high school, college, or professional football fall is a time that is known for tailgates, rival games, and homecomings.
My favorite teams are of course the Purdue Boilermakers for college football and the Green Bay Packers on Sundays. I was born and raised in a small Wisconsin town, so I bleed green and gold. Some of my best childhood memories are going with my family and tailgating in the parking lot before the game. We would then cheer the Pack to victory while dressed head to toe green and gold.
Who are some of you favorite teams or memories associated with football?
